We are a friendly and inclusive u3a, open to everyone not in full time employment. We are based in the villages that lie between Chorley and Blackburn in Lancashire. Our main location is Withnell Fold Sports and Social Club where we hold drop-in sessions every Wednesday at 11.00am. (apart from the first Wednesday in the month when we have a speaker) These are open to members and potential members to meet others over a tea/coffee and biscuits. (Please check the What’s On? page to make sure the Drop In session is scheduled – very occasionally there may be another event in its place).
We hold a number of interest groups at the sports club but groups are also held at venues in the surrounding villages or in members’ homes.
We are a fairly small u3a which we find to be an asset, making it easy to meet like minded people and make friends.
Our aim is to provide opportunities for all to come together and learn for fun. The u3a mantra is learn, laugh and live but live, laugh and learn better fits our approach!
‘Everyone in the u3a should be an involved member and not a customer being served’. (a recent quote from the founder of the u3a and very relevant today!)
Our activities take place in groups. Please have a good look through the activities on offer – we’re sure you’ll find something to interest you! Please note however that a few groups are not operating at the moment (Folk Dancing, Singing, Rusty Rackets) However just send a message if your interest lies here and we’ll see what we can do!
We hold Speaker Meetings on the first Wednesday in the month at 10.30 am, which are open to all members and we produce an on-line monthly newsletter to report on the month’s activities and also to inform members of future events.
