Newsletter (January 2024)

A belated Happy New Year.

We are looking forward to a full and action-packed year – so why not take advantage of some of our 39 groups. There’s a full list on the website.

We are always keen to promote the u3a, so now we can with some colourful bunting which will be appearing at the clubhouse.

Here, our models Ann and Norma are pictured trying not to get tangled up as they demonstrate our new purchase.

We need your views…..

For our speaker meetings, we do try to make sure everyone can hear what’s being said. We are currently reviewing this and are experimenting with microphones for the speakers. But we would like your help , so please tell us how you find the sound and what you think may help to improve it.

Just fill in the form at the bottom of this newsletter and we will collate them all and come back with any improvements.

Calling any Strictly fans…..

For all you Strictly Come Dancing fans, it seems there may be some fleet footed members out there.

We need a dance teacher

If anyone is interested in starting a dancing group – be it a waltz, a quickstep or a salsa, or know anyone who knows their left foot from their right one and would like to teach like-minded enthusiasts, please get in touch with the group convenor via the website.

Policies and documents

While there is always lots to do at our u3a, sometimes we forget the behind-the-scenes information.

All our policies and statements are available on the website for your perusal. Just look under the Menu button and click on Documents.

It’s lovely to be appreciated

It’s always good to be appreciated and when members send in messages to say how much they are enjoying our u3a, it shows we are doing things right. Here are a couple of recent comments:

“I love the Wednesday speakers, quizzes and the Newsletter and hope to get more involved in the groups in 2024. Thanks for all your much appreciated work and for enriching life in Withnell.”

“Although a relatively new member I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve attended and mean to join even more in 2024. Thank you Ann and your committee for all your hard work.”

A musical Christmas

Before we bid a final farewell to 2023, here’s a look at one of our last outings, when the ukulele and the chimes groups performed at the Withnell Fold village Christmas carol service at the club.

Charming chimers!
Ukulele maestros!

They performed a series of carols in front of an appreciative audience (well they did applaud!) and despite a few last-minute nerves, everything went relatively smoothly. A good time was had by all – and a glass of mulled wine helped.

Looking forward…….

There’s lots of things being lined up for 2024, with outings and theatre visits as well as all your well-loved groups. Keep an eye on the website and your monthly newsletter.

Look forward to lots of laughing, learning and living, with your WPVu3a.
