Speaker Meetings

On the first Wednesday of every month we will invite outside speakers to talk on a wide variety of topics ranging from local history and international adventure, to interesting hobbies and expertise. Talks will normally be held in Withnell Fold Sports and Social Club and will start at 10-30am unless otherwise stated. Entry is £2 and includes refreshments. All West Pennine Villages u3a members are welcome.

Some events may take place in venues with limited parking. If you are a Blue Badge holder and plan to attend an event or take part in an activity, please contact us and we will endeavour to reserve a car parking space for you.

6th. March 2024

The next Speaker Event will be on Wednesday 6th March when we will be entertained by Sid Calderbank. Sid lives in Euxton and will talk about the Lancashire dialect, something he is an expert on. He has been collecting and researching the songs, stories and poems of old Lancashire for over 40 years, interpreting them for modern day audiences and performing them at folk, arts and literary festivals anywhere from Aberdeen to Dartmoor!
He has appeared regularly on BBC TV and radio, speaking on the Lancashire Dialect. Flog It!; Countryfile; Michael Portillo’s Railway Journeys; Radio 4’s “Tongue and the Talk” and Celebrity Antiques Road Trip

The event will take place at Withnell Fold Sports & Social Club, PR6 8BA commencing at 10-30am as usual. Entry is £2 which can be paid using the u3a card reader.

Let me know if you need a disabled car space reserving and don’t forget there is level access to the Clubhouse at the rear if needed.
