Poetry

To participate in any of our activities you need to be a member – details here. To contact the group please leave a message using the form at the bottom of this page.

Once a month this group shares and celebrates poetry of all kinds over a cup of something refreshing.

We read poems, listen to poems, share our favourites, explore new poems and chat about what we think of them.

Sometimes we just relax and listen to the music of someone’s favourite verses, ones that make us sad, ones that make us laugh out loud, ones that surprise us a bit [or a LOT].

We choose themes for our poems or make them seasonal – it’s up to us! Everyone contributes ideas and some of the ones we have explored are :-

Autumn, Holidays, Trees, Space, Animals, Innocence …. the scope is endless.

We also sometimes focus on a favourite [or non- favourite!] poet and in the past this has included Roger McGough, Simon Armitage, Sylyia Plath, Philip Larkin etc. etc.

“Thanks for all the words that sing
Thanks for words are everything
Thanks for all the WORDS like this
And little sloppy words like kiss,
Thanks for words like hip-hooray
And those cool words I like to say
Thanks for words that reach and touch
Thank you very, very much.” [from FOR WORD by Benjamin Zephaniah]
